In today’s world of social media, where a grander show of these things are being documented, there is a lot of competition and a lot of pressure to show off in the most excellent of ways and do something amazing. That is good, great in fact, but you are in love and that lasts longer than a few likes, outweighs a couple of retweets and shares.
To ask, how do you love each other when no one else is liking or hashtagging you as #couplegoals? How do you sustain and replenish that feeling every day, outside the need for what is grand and the desire to show off for the gram?
- Leave notes, write poetryTo do this, you do not have to be a great poet or an orator, the idea is to use your words as constantly as possible because sometimes, we forget to tell the person we fell in love with that we are still in love with them. Sending a text message is great but there is a lot of intimacy that comes with you using a pen and paper. Slide it in their bag, in a book you are sure they would read or in between their laptops.
- Buy them things in their favorite colourIt is very common to go out and buy them their favourite thing but how often do you search for things in their favourite colour just to remind them that you still remember those little things. It could be stationaries, socks, hair dye, or a bedspread.
- Give them time… away from youRelationships sometimes can be smouldering with each partner forgetting that they are still separate individuals who need to be their own person. Have a conversation and agree to give each other the day off or a specific time away from each other to catch up with themselves, do the things they love or hang out with their friends.
- Get a little hands-onTouching reminds you of how intimate you are with your partner. A lover’s touch is different from that of a parent’s, friend’s, or stranger’s, and that is why we need to feel it more often- so both partners do not become strangers to each other. Reach across the table, lock hands as you walk, or slightly brush each other’s skin even in the most formal setting just to serve as a silent reminder.
Love is like food; you have to serve it every day so your partner doesn’t go hungry.
