Abdullahi and Ope graduated from the same university in 2014. While they were in school, they were cordial but never really close.
As fate would have it, they were assigned to the same LGA during their NYSC service year in Lagos and a friendship began to blossom.
They started to do as much as they could together and always looked forward to CDS days and we know it wasn’t because they loved NYSC.
Ope would call him “big head” and Abdullahi would always call her “bestie”.
One morning Ope woke up with a strange feeling in her stomach (butterflies) and Abdullahi on her mind. It was then she realized she had romantic feelings for her ‘bestie’.
“We’re just friends”, Ope said to herself as she was unsure if he felt the same way.
But here’s the good news, there are patterns and nuances of behaviour that lets you know if he loves you.
In love, there are certain things you just can’t fake so here’s what you should look out for.
How he looks at you. He looks at you in awe. An ‘I can’t believe you exist’ look, usually with a dreamy smile plastered across his face. Not driven by lust but rather an inner peace that comes when you’re around and he just can’t take his eyes off you.
He goes the extra mile for you. Whenever you need something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, he is willing to drop everything. Times when you need advice, a shoulder to cry on, a ride, or any sort of help, he’s always there listening and thinking of ways to make the situation better for you. Love is about giving, so even if he hasn’t said it yet. He probably loves you.
He asks for your adviceIf he consults you about important decisions in his life, it’s likely he sees a future with you in it.It also means he trusts you and cares what you think.
He remembers the little thingsIf you mention needing a new hairbrush in passing he’ll get you a new one when he’s at the mall.He remembers what you said you had to do during your day and asks about them at the end of the day. Because if he’s in love with you, everything about you is important to him.
He always tries to be physically close to you. When he’s in love with you, he’ll always find a reason to be close to you. In a room, he always tries to sit as close as possible to you. The need for close proximity is our human instinct to protect the people we care about.
Your happiness is as important as his. In most cases, he places your needs before his own because your happiness becomes his happiness. If he keeps doing things you’ve told him to make you unhappy, then he doesn’t love you. When he loves you he will make conscious decisions to avoid things that make you unhappy.
